The history of the city begins in the 11th century, when the Vladimir-Suzdal lands passed into the possession of the Kyiv prince Vsevolod Yaroslavich and his descendants. Here, on the high bank of the Klyazma, Vsevolod’s son Vladimir Monomakh in 1108 laid the foundation for the city of Vladimir, building a fortress and the first white-stone temple.
